Back to #bourbon town we go with this years #LimitedEdition wood finishing series release from #MakersMark, the FAE-01. As we tend to pair #singlemalt #whisky from foreign lands, a bourbon is always welcomed to change the gears in the #WhiskyAndDonuts process.
This #2021 release uses virgin #American oak staves that have been toasted on one side and left raw on the other, producing strong earthy flavors and bright, fruity notes. The name, FAE-01, comes from the fatty acid esters which are formed throughout the distilling and fermentation process. The result, from what we taste, is just really good! Although we continue to consider ourselves novice #whiskey connoisseurs (if that’s a thing) we can definitely taste and smell the extra something special with this one! Marketed as a ‘warehouse smell in a bottle’, the sip is oily and fruit-forward, zesty and sweet while complimenting the brands common characteristics! Truly a flavor bomb that will bring us sorrow once the bottle is empty!
A fitting powerhouse of a bourbon deserves a worthy sidekick with comparable volume and the San Juan Capistrano #donut spot in #California #JDFlannel is up to the task with their recent monthly release of the Coconut Caramel creation. Inspired by the Girl Scout #Samoas, this sweet thang goes beyond the infamous boxed cookie reminiscent of our aunties rich #German #chocolate #cake. Toasted coconut flakes, sweet chocolate drizzle and bright caramel glaze tops the moist vanilla and spiced cake dough for the ultimate bite.
Paired with the FAE-01, this is genuinely a heavy hitter! So many flavors box it out while our brains attempt to keep up with the explosion of everything..ness! Each are sufficiently decadent, together… WHOA.
