So what is the difference between a marionberry and the common blackberry?
Actually enough to tell the difference… if you allow yourself the time! Described as the ‘king of blackberries’, this #Oregon originated summer bloom fruit offers a more robust flavor and texture than its more common and available sibling. Thank you to #Oliboli Donuts for showcasing this flavor as this breed of berry rarely gets past the Oregon borders due to such popularity. – Like the featured berry here, this year’s Sanaig release from #Kilchoman seems to offer that extra robustness as well! From the increased saturation of hue to the local terroir texture of peat and grain, it is no surprise that recent accolades would come knocking. Sanaig, named after an inlet on Islay’s rugged Atlantic coast, is comprised of an ex #bourbon and sherry cask mix. This blend allows for the dark smoke and tangy sweets to float upon the beautiful complexity within the dram. Subtle confectionary cream and caramel combined with charred wood and malt residue provide an earthy sweet and savory palate while hints of tropical and citrus fruit brighten the experience. This single malt hits all the marks in price and availability but most importantly, satisfies the peat and #Islay style #whisky diehard lovers while accommodating the easy drinker without losing quality. Well done to this hooch house, it is hard to believe this is the first of this brand to be paired on our platform!
Although we could imagine a holiday style and/or dark #chocolate #donut paired here, the marionberry glaze atop the buttery 40 hour yeast dough simply fits into all of the corners. Perfectly amplifying the citrus, tang and tart of the #scotch, the heightened sour sweet of this #Frankenstein berry breed adds to the chewy finish while being just a standalone killer treat sans the dram or java. We hope this featured flavored resonated within this shops fanbase as we would personally like to see it back on the menu sooner than later! – Stay safe, Stay passionate, Stay open hearted. #Slainte
