Having recently had the pleasure of discussing all things paired with the talented head pastry chef of @harrodsfood @AlistairBirt and #Tomatin brand ambassador @Scott_Adamson, we were able to shed more layers, celebrating the art of it all, arriving closer to the core.
Like the basis of good #whisky making, pastry and chocolateering fundamentals must remain in order to reach the traditional and consumable standard. But there are those, like Alistair and the few past and present master distillers, who have harnessed their craft looking beyond the standard to create excellence in uncharted waters. At the end of our discussion, our goal was even more clear… to celebrate these two entities rather than providing a pre constructed package for you to digest while potentially muting the greatness of each. #WhiskyAndDonuts may just be another #Insta worthy vehicle of delivery… but we will continue to keep the spotlight on our subjects rather than ourselves.
Intrigued by the composition of this expression, the limited edition Tomatin 15YO Moscatel Finish represents mastery in standard pushing the limits of today-world whisky. Aged in moscatel barriques in its last 5 years of maturation, makes this #scotch less of a seasoned (or finished) single malt and rather a beautiful experiment of its own! Creamy distillery characteristics surround the sun dried fruit notes while hints of summer barbecue smoke and ash creep into the palate. Like one too many Cadillac margaritas on a #TacoTuesday, salted citrus presents an aromatic and tangy mouthfeel while the tart orchard fruit presents the overall theme. We look forward to these somewhat accessible experiments in the future, because this one is honest, unique and most importantly, delicious!
Back to #OliBoli for one of their main menu favorites, Fry Bread with seasonal jam and fresh cream. This particular filling fit the calling magically with their local plum preserve and ricotta cheese center. The airy dough melts like butter in your mouth while the tart jam linked perfectly with the sun-dried elements of the single malt. Perhaps we are getting subconsciously savy with this whole pairing thing as the timing is impeccable for the time year making it a killer summer time tag team!
