Who doesn’t love an underdog story? To overcome the odds in the face of adversity, the tale as old as time repeatedly inspires the human condition not because the underdog usually prevails, but because subconsciously we continue to seek inspiration through stories of passion and drive. – With roots dating back to 1762 with the original Watts family, this once dormant brand of Irish whisky, is back to producing their original pot stilled juice with a modern twist thanks to Kilbeggan Distilling Co. and Beam Suntory. Named after the families ‘against the odds’ race horse instilled by passion and drive, Tyrconnell is one of three lineups produced including their current lineup of standard age statements and finished expressions. This 10 year old version finished in port casks, is a creamy sweet tooth dream in a glass! Light herbal and spice notes sprinkle the experience while the medium bodied mouthful is lead by creamy vanillas, cereal and fruit. We were delighted by the experience of this dram, offering plenty of bite at 46% strength while the sherried finish melts like syrup on a hotcake full of deep fruits, wild berries and honey!
Inspired by the brown sugar and toasted cereal elements of the dram, we linked this #WhiskyAndDonuts pairing with Sidecar’s monthly special Peach Crisp! Brown butter-brown sugar cake doughnut, studded with fresh peaches, topped with house made peach glaze, and finished with sage-brown butter-oatmeal crisp. Talk about an after dinner pairing, this dessert combo 2.0 is a sweet butter bomb ready to explode. – It has been a while since we have visited and #Irishwhiskey and we are delighted to discover something different, worth the price and most importantly delicious! – #Slainte
