As we focus on the liquid inside of the bottle, the flavor and aroma begins to stimulate memories and excitement for something reminded beckoning us to search further into the glass to dig for those forgotten life’s flashes of fond memories, good times and profound moments. A late trip last year to #Portland with the duo of @singlecasknation was one that revealed discovery beyond what was expected. As lead distiller, @miles_munroe lead us around the textured #Oregon city before welcoming us to @westwardwhiskey we were completely unprepared for the pure immersion of the #beer lovin’, #whiskey slangin’ ecodome playground this #distillery and its people had to offer. Towards the end, sitting amongst stacks of filled barrels and wood soaked aging in the air, I remember whispering to @whiskycherub and @whiskyjedi to say ‘ … it’s here..#singlemalt is HERE in the #USA .’
The Stout Cask expression plays the creative one amongst the #WestwardWhiskey lineup. To celebrate the rich history and success of the #Northwest #brewing culture, the house style liquid is aged in seasoned stout casks to create a malty and drying sip while notes of chocolate and spice continue throughout. Now knowing that Miles and crew found their roots in beer, this completely makes sense and truly defines the ethos of this #distillery. Between the #caskstrength , #pinotnoir , and flagship expressions, we are in and excited for things to come from this haven.
Back to the house that provided the first few bites of our pairing journey, @thedonuttery #carrotcake #donut stands toe to toe with the stout #whiskey . Topped with a rich and silky cream cheese frosting, this spiced #cake style pastry balances the drying grass and herbal qualities of the sip while the sweetened carrots and #dough play with the maltiness to create a #delicious bite slowly arriving to an #umami like experience.
